Buddha said:

I consider the positions of kings and rulers as that of dust motes.

Ta xem ngôi vị của các bậc vua chúa cầm quyền chỉ như hạt bụi nhỏ.

I observe treasures of gold and gems as so many bricks and pebbles.

Ta xem những kho báu vàng ngọc như những đống gạch vụn và đá sỏi.

I look upon the finest silken robes as tattered rags.

Ta xem những những y phục bằng lụa tốt mịn nhất như những

miếng giẻ rách.

I see myriad worlds of the universe as small seeds of fruit, and the greatest lake in India as a drop of oil on my foot.

Ta xem hằng sa thế giới trong vũ trụ này như những hạt cải, và cái

hồ nước lớn nhất chỉ như giọt dầu nhỏ lên bàn chân ta.

I perceive the teachings of the world to be the illusion of magicians.

Ta nhìn mọi giáo pháp của thế gian chỉ như trò ảo thuật.

I discern the highest conception of emancipation as a golden brocade in a dream, and view the holy path of the illuminated ones as flowers appearing in one’s eyes.

Ta nhận thức ý niệm cao siêu nhất của sự giải thoát như mảnh gấm

thêu vàng trong giấc mộng, và thánh đạo của những bậc giác ngộ

như những đóa hoa phản chiếu trong mắt người.

I see meditation as a pillar of a mountain, Nirvana as a nightmare of daytime.

Ta xem thiền định như cột trụ chống đỡ ngọn núi, Niết-bàn như cơn

ác mộng giữa ban ngày.

I look upon the judgment of right and wrong as the serpentine dance of a dragon, and the rise and fall of beliefs as but traces left by the four seasons.”

Ta xem sự phán đoán đúng sai như sự uốn lượn của một con rồng, và sự tăng giảm của những niềm tin chỉ như dấu vết đổi thay tuần tự theo sau bốn mùa.”
