Bill Jenkins worked in a big office in the city, and generally he used to go to the barber’s during working hours to have his hair cut, although this was against the rules: clerks had to have their hair cut in their own time.
Bill Jenkins làm việc tại một cơ quan lớn trong thành phố, và thường thì anh chàng hay đi hớt tóc trong giờ làm việc. Mặc dù điều này trái với nội quy cơ quan: các nhân viên phải cắt tóc trong thời gian riêng của mình.

While Bill was at the barber’s one day, the manager of the office came in by chance to have his own hair cut. Bill saw him and tried to hide his face, but the manager came and sat beside him, so he soon recognized him.

Một hôm, trong khi Bill đang trong tiệm hớt tóc thì ông giám đốc cơ quan cũng vô tình vào đó để cắt tóc. Bill trông thấy ông ta và cố giấu mặt đi, nhưng ông ta đã tới ngồi cạnh và nhanh chóng nhận ra anh chàng.

“Hullo, Jenkins,” the manager said. “I see that you are having your hair cut in office time,”

“À, chào Jenkins. Tôi thấy là anh đang hớt tóc trong giờ làm việc đấy nhé!” ông giám đốc nói.

“Yes, sir, I am,” admitted Bill calmly. “You see, sir, it grows in office time.”

“Vâng, thưa ông. Nhưng như ông biết đấy, tóc cũng mọc dài trong giờ làm việc ạ.” Bill bình tĩnh thú nhận.

“Not all of it,” said the manager of the office at once. “Some of it grows in your own time.”

“Nhưng cũng không phải tất cả. Cũng có những phần tóc chỉ mọc trong lúc rảnh rỗi mà thôi.” Ông giám đốc nói ngay.

“Yes, sir, that’s quite true” answered Bill politely, “but I’m not having it all cut off.”

“Dạ thưa ông điều đó rất đúng nhưng mà tôi cũng đâu có hớt hết tóc đi đâu ạ.” Bill lịch sự đáp lời.
